Stuart's Opera House
The Show Must Go On...

A lovingly restored theatre that reflects its glory days from 1879 through 1924 when it was home to touring vaudeville, melodrama and minstrel shows, Stuart's Opera House is the cornerstone of the Nelsonville Historic Arts District.
Stuart's closed and sat empty from 1924 through the mid-seventies. In 1977 a non-profit community group set out to bring the theatre back to life and then a devastating fire nearly destroyed the building in 1980. Seventeen years later in 1997, the opera house re-opened its doors and is now one of Southeast Ohio's most respected and revered places to experience live music.
