Some of Ohio's top high school jazz bands and combos will visit Ohio University's Baker Center for a day of performance, critiques and workshops. The public is invited to attend the performances throughout the day. The top ranked band will be invited to perform on the Memorial Auditorium Stage during the Saturday FEATURE PERFORMANCE beginning at 7:30pm.
The big show begins at 7:30pm and features headliners Tim Hagans and Gary Wittner, along with Jazz Spoken Here. Special performance by Elemental Groove Theory, voted Athens Best Band for 2012. OU Students and high school workshop attendees admitted free. Tickets $10.
The 2012 ATHENS JAZZ FESTIVAL ® is a joint production of the Athens County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Athens Municipal Arts Commission, ARTS-West, the Ohio University Performing Arts Series and the School of Music. The Festival organization gratefully acknowledges the assistance of C.A. House Music, the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio, and Pellegrino Music Center in promoting this event.

Tim Hagans is a Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter and composer originally from Dayton, Ohio. He currently performs, tours, and records with the Tim Hagans Quartet. He has played and taught across America and in Europe.

Gary Wittner has played guitar across the US and Europe. Today he performs and teaches privately in New York City, and is a jazz guitar/ensemble instructor at the University of Southern Maine, Bowdoin College and Lincoln Academy.
