The Dairy Barn Arts Center announces the opening of Athens Voices USA 2013, the 5th Biennial juried exhibition of mixed media art produced by artists that live or work within three “Athens” communities in the United States. The exhibition will be open to the public January 19th through March 15, 2013; visitors will see a collection of never before exhibited works from 48 talented “Athens” artists with a total of 73 pieces representing Athens, Alabama, Ohio and West Virginia.
Jurors Kenner Bush, Gary Kirksey and Edward Pauley began with images of over 356 works by 65 artists and after five rounds of the jury, the jurors selected the final 75 pieces from 48 artists. Go to our website for a complete list of artists and their pieces in the exhibit.
Six awards will be presented to artists at the opening Friday, January 18, 2013 and many of artists will be available to share information about their pieces of works including artists from other “Athens Communities. The pieces in the exhibit are for sale and AV USA ’13 artists will also have additional pieces in the Gallery Shop for purchase.
In addition to the exhibit, the Dairy Barn Arts Center did major renovation to the Sauber Gallery over the holiday break. The renovations included painting the 99 year old ceiling of the Gallery and installing a new lighting system that includes the usage of energy efficient LED bulbs. The project was made possible by a number of local donors, The AEP Foundation and The Grid Smart program. An official opening of the Gallery and the “Lighting of the Barn” will take place 5pm on January 18, 2013 with a ceremonial flipping of the switch.
“In celebration of our 35th anniversary year of the Dairy Barn Arts Center’ operation, we are very excited to have renovated our ‘Sauber Gallery’ and to have expanded one of our most valued exhibits, Athens Voices,” said Jane Forrest Redfern, Executive Director of The Dairy Barn Arts Center. “We are also very pleased that we will have representatives from the different Athens Communities here for the opening reception and a kickoff of our 35th year.”
