The Friends of Strouds Run, a nonprofit organization that supports our local state park, wishes to announce a series of nature hikes to be given this spring and summer. The hikes will be once a month, usually on the last Sunday, and are free and open to all.

Participants should meet at 1:00 pm on the scheduled Sunday at the new boathouse (concession stand) near the boat ramp at the park.

The first outing will be about the geology of Strouds Run State Park. The leader of this event, John Knouse, will discuss the environmental geology, environmental geography, stratigraphy and economic geology of the park. A geology pamphlet will be provided to each participant.

The April hike, on April 26, will be for spring wildflowers.

The May hike, on May 24, will look at invasive exotic plants.

The June hike will be about ferns, fern allies and lycopods on June 28.

The July hike will be on July 26, on woody plants (trees, shrubs, and vines).

In August, the hike will feature summer wildflowers, on August 23.
